To many people, beauty is a thing where they can see, touch and feel it. While others, beauty is hidden within the nature. In everyday life, we can define the word 'Beauty' by glimpsing across the streets. It is so commonly used that almost everyone misunderstood the original meaning and unknowingly replaced 'nice' with beauty. In other words, people often used beautiful to express a noun but the noun is neither very pleasing to the senses nor attractive as a feature. Conversely, neither is there a definite meaning for ‘Beauty’ which shows that it can be use to describe anything.
At one point, Beauty is most common used by males to express the outlook of their spouse. Although many people find that their friend’s spouse may not be as pretty as a picture, to them, they are the most beautiful thing of all. At another point, natural beauty of what we known are actually behaviour such as gracious, generous, caring, oblivious and courteous etcetera. These behaviours are always the main focus actions that enable one person to attract their opposite sex. Thus, we can see that there are a lot of ways to “use” beauty.
Besides, beauty has become part of what we known as fashion. As the world became more globalised, talented artists started travelling across the world to look for opportunity in different countries, before settling down to start their own business with their unique brand. For instances, Louis Vuitton, G2000 and Armani are some examples of successful brand who managed to sell their goods at very high costs in turn for good qualities. As a result, we can conclude that beauty in fashion has been doing pretty well in the economy and are still in search for more talented people within the fashion industry.
In other words, the main target is the youth generation. Today, simply glance across the Orchard Street, we can see that youth are dressing up themselves with different clothing that suit the seasons. Thus, it is a fact that youth do realise about the change in fashion during the seasons. However, most youth across the Singapore are just following what the fashion tells but they had never come across their mind to design their very own clothing that is in relation to the fashion season. Also, almost all the youth preferred the colour black compared to the other colours. This has result in a serious problem as beauty in fashion has a meaning of rainbow colours which means that none of the colours should be left out. Hence, we can see that youths are lacking of talent and knowledge about the true beauty in fashion industry.
What can we do to improve the current situation? First, which is the most important for youths is to encourage them to participate in beauty pageants. For instance, the time and efforts to prepare for one fashion show and what is the differences between each seasons. As such, the youths will be able to understand more about fashion and clear their doubts on the spots. Secondly, as youths first learned about fashion from the magazines, several companies can provide details each week to their readers with regards on what is important when designing and which fabric will suit the best etcetera.
Besides, companies can come up with competition for youths to participate and from there, enrich their knowledge and search for talented youths among all. Other than that, the companies can create a website to enable youths to sell their designs to them and only buy the designs if they are excellent. Through this program, I strongly believed that many youths will be interested and more talented designers will be developed over the time.
On the whole, youths in Singapore do not have a deep understanding about beauty. However, there is many ways that companies can do to nurture the youths in Singapore and allow them to gain a better understanding about what beauty is. Nonetheless, it will also help to bring Singapore one step further into the fashion industry.
